CNN: Will it, or won't it, hold?
That's the question following word late Monday that Israel and Palestinian factions, including Hamas, agreed to a 72-hour humanitarian cease-fire proposed by Egypt.
Even as they agreed to the cease-fire, set to take effect Tuesday morning, both sides appeared suspicious of one another. "The onus is on Hamas," Israeli government spokesman Mark Regev said shortly after announcing on CNN's "The Lead with Jake Tapper" that Israel had accepted the Egyptian proposal. Under the agreement, the cease-fire will begin at 8 a.m. local time, he said
The sentiment was similar from Hamas spokesman Osama Hamdan, who told CNN as long as Israel honors the agreement, so will the Palestinians.
On FX, focus on the above - for whether the ceasefire will lead to further agreement. Good to watch. Focus on Ukraine crisis as well, as Ukranian government seen confident of defeating pro- Russian rebels.
Focus on any easing of geopolitical tensions. WTI crude oil $98.40-41. USD/CHF at 0.9066-69, offer 0.9100-10, bids at 0.9020-30/0.9000. EUR/CHF at 1.2166-70, bids at 1.2140-50, with improve in geopolitical environment, to see some support for EUR/CHF, USD/CHF. WL
