BBG: Democrat Party Secretary-General Chuti Krairiksk said on Friday it is too early to decide whether to contest or boycott a new general election. The DP quit the parliament and boycotted the Feb 2 poll, which was later annulled by the courts. Meanwhile, the Election Commission reported that 42.5% of eligible voters take part in the Senate poll which was largely peaceful. EC Commissioner Somchai commented that he believe election can be a success if the situation is calm and urge all parties to cooperate to make the political situation peaceful. The EC plans to meet on 1 Apr to discuss plans for a new general election and will seek input from political parties.
USD/THB decisively retreated from the 32.50 level, touching 32.39 before hovering around 32.40 as we write. Downside pressure seen in USD/Asians contributed to the USD/THB pullback, though we expect further dips to be hampered amid ongoing political gridlock as well as PM Yingluck's NACC charges. Immediate support now seen at 32.355 ahead of stronger 32.310. SETi advanced modestly by 0.3%. BA
