EUR/USD fails to resist above 1.1600, eyes on US tax reforms

  • DXY remains offered on reports of the US corporate tax delay.
  • Finds support near 1.1585 again.
  • Eyes a break above 10-DMA near 1.1620.

The EUR/USD pair tries hard to maintain the bids above 1.16 handle, as the US dollar remains on the back foot amid US tax reforms uncertainty, while a lack of fresh fundamental drivers leaves the rates at the mercy of the USD price-action.

EUR/USD back near 5-DMA of 1.1607

The spot bounced-off a dip to 1.1585 levels and extended that renewed uptick to post fresh daily tops at 1.1611 before easing slightly to test 1.16 handle. The latest leg higher can be attributed to fresh USD weakness, as the European traders hit their desks and reacted negatively to the US corporate tax cut delay news.

However, the sellers continue to lurk above 1.1600 levels, despite persisting risk-off market profile, keeping the recovery attempts short-lived. Meanwhile, the downside remains cushioned amid cross-driven strength, with the EUR/GBP cross rallying hard on broad-based GBP sell-off.

Markets look forward to the sentiment on the Wall Street and fresh developments surrounding the US tax reforms for near-term trading opportunities.

EUR/USD Technical Levels

Karen Jones, Analyst at Commerzbank, noted: “EUR/USD again has sold off however the new low has not been confirmed by the daily RSI and there is a TD perfected set up on the daily – both suggest a loss of downside momentum. Ideally, rebounds will struggle to regain 1.1660/90. We remain bearish while capped here.”

AUD/USD going nowhere in a hurry; remains stuck in a multi-week-old range

AUD/USD extends the range play on Friday and remains below the 200-day SMA pivotal resistance as the RBA's dovish outlook and renewed US-China trade tensions undermine the Aussie amid a modest USD recovery. However, Fed rate cut bets cap the upside for the USD, which, along with a positive risk tone, acts as a tailwind for the currency pair.

Gold trades with mild positive bias below two-week top set on Thursday

Gold price edges higher following the previous day's pullback from a two-week high amid a combination of supporting factors. Concerns about the US economic growth and fiscal health, along with renewed US-China trade tensions and geopolitical risks, benefit the XAU/USD's safe-haven status. Moreover, subdued USD price action and Fed rate cut bets support the non-yielding yellow metal.
