Fortnite Merchandise Store, an online-based video game Fortnite recently announced the exclusive addition of Monero (XMR) as a payment method. The news was shared to the public by the Monero team on New year’s day.

“The official Fortnite Merch Store is now exclusively accepting #Monero as a cryptocurrency payment option!”

The online retailer has been in existence since July 2017 and has within a short period of time grown to become a leading gaming platform. Besides, at the moment it boasts of supporting over $125 million gamers spread across the world. The platform is a brainchild of Epic Games and was valued at $15 billion in October this year.

The platform uses a payment service provider referred to as GloBee. The services allow customers to pay for services in Bitcoin (BTC), Litecoin (LTC) as well as Ripple’s XRP. However, Monero has become first digital asset to be supported on the platform directly. In addition to crypto payments, customers of the store have other options such as credit card and PayPal.

Monero price overview

At the time of writing, Monero is trading at $49.22. It is among the few assets that are trading in the green on Wednesday after the new year celebrations. The asset is lagging reaction to the double-top pattern formed on the hourly chart. Monero is likely to continue trimming the gains in the short-term. However, if it sustains the position above the trendline support, then buyers will gather strength to attack $50 resistance and embark on more gains towards $60. XMR/USD is also supported by the 21 SMA which is above the 50 SMA to show that buying power is still present.
