NZD/USD reaches 1-year highs

The New Zealand dollar is among the best performers on Wednesday, having broken above its 100-day SMA to reach its highest level in over a year against the greenback.

NZD/USD climbed to a peak of 0.7187, last seen Jun 10 2015, and continues to threaten the upside as the kiwi remains supported by sentiment amid increasing likelihood the UK will choose to remain in the EU at tomorrow’s referendum.

NZD/USD technical levels

At time of writing, NZD/USD is trading at 0.7185, recording a 0.93% gain on the day. In terms of technical levels, next resistances could be faced at 0.7200 (psychological level), 0.7232 (Jun 10 2015 high) and 0.7271 (May 28 2015 high). On the flip side, supports are now seen at 0.7118 (Jun 22 low), 0.7077 (10-day SMA) and then 0.7049 (Jun 20 low).

Week ahead – Data blitz, Fed Minutes and RBNZ decision in the spotlight

US GDP and PCE inflation are main highlights, plus the Fed minutes. UK and Japan have busy calendars too with focus on CPI. Flash PMIs for February will also be doing the rounds. RBNZ meets, is unlikely to follow RBA’s hawkish path.
