Iraqi PM Abdul Mahdi, in a phone call with US Secretary of State Pompeo, stressed the importance of de-escalation in the region, according to a statement from his office.
Abdul Mahdi has condemned attacks that targeted the US embassy in Baghdad and pledged to boost Iraqi protection of it, stressing the importance of respecting Iraq's sovereignty by everyone.
Update: In addition, Pompeo was later reported to have expressed outrage at the continued assaults by Iran's armed groups against US facilities in Iraq.
