US Senate joins House in passing new sanctions on Russia

The Senate overwhelmingly voted to impose new sanctions on Russia, joining the House in approving the measure by veto-proof margins.
The vote on the bill was 98-2. It also includes sanctions against North Korea and Iran. It targets Russian aggression in Ukraine and Syria.
The bill next goes to the White House. It was reported earlier today that Trump may veto sanctions against Russia, although the bill passed today includes a provision that would limit Trump’s authority to lift the sanctions unilaterally.
