Dollar weakens as markets look ahead to NFP

The US Dollar remains under pressure as markets continue to digest the outcome of the US midterm elections. Greater political clarity is providing support for equities, while investors are increasingly focusing on tomorrow's US Non-Farm Payrolls report. The labour market data could become the next major catalyst for the dollar. Another soft reading may reinforce expectations of a less restrictive Federal Reserve and open the door to further USD weakness.

Market talk

Equity markets are moving higher, although performance remains mixed across sectors. Blue-chip stocks and consumer staples are attracting demand, while parts of the technology sector continue to show uneven performance. Chinese technology shares are also gaining momentum, with the Hang Seng Index showing signs of renewed strength. Lower oil prices could provide additional support for equities by easing inflation concerns and reducing pressure on corporate costs. US crude has fallen below the $90 level.

Precious metals have extended their gains as the weaker dollar provides support. However, silver is lagging behind gold, and both metals are approaching important technical resistance levels. A sustained break above these areas could strengthen the bullish outlook, while rejection may trigger some profit-taking.

AUD/USD has bounced from its weekly support area, making the pair an interesting indicator of broader risk sentiment. Whether the recovery can continue may offer further clues about investors' appetite for risk.

Sterling is strengthening ahead of today's Bank of England decision. GBPUSD is trading comfortably above its 50-day and 50-week moving averages, keeping the technical picture constructive. The next notable resistance area lies around 1.3600. The BoE's guidance could determine whether sterling can maintain its momentum. However, the main focus remains on tomorrow's NFP report, which could set the tone for the US dollar and broader markets into the next trading sessions.

Tendencies in the markets

  • Equities positive, USD weak, crypto positive, oil weak, metals positive, JPY stronger.
