NASDAQ 100 futures benefit from in-line CPI print

Inflation in the United States (US) is under control at the moment, and that fact is boosting the NASDAQ 100 futures in Wednesday's premarket. The growth index has gained 0.75% following the US Consumer Price Index (CPI) print for July, which came out one hour before the regular open.

The headline CPI fell to 3.4%, in line with prior estimates and down from June's 3.5% reading. Also, as expected, annual core CPI fell from 2.6% to 2.5%.

This is what the market wanted to hear, as it provides less risk that the US central bank will need to hike interest rates. CME Group's FedWatch Tool shows that odds of an interest rate hold at the Federal Reserve's (Fed) September meeting rose from circa 52% a day ago to 56% on Wednesday.

Nvidia (NVDA) rose 1.6% in the premarket on the news, while memory chip companies Sandisk (SNDK) and Micron (MU) jumped 5% and 3% as well.

9-3: Is the Federal Reserve’s vote tally Warsh's new forward guidance?
The rate did not move. Neither did the statement, and that’s the more interesting fact. Set the July 29 Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) statement beside the one issued on June 17, and the two documents are identical apart from a single verb and a paragraph at the bottom naming three dissenters.
