Jio IPO opens today as crypto traders bet on its valuation before listing

Jio Platforms opened its initial public offering on Wednesday, bringing one of India's most anticipated listings to the market.

The company is raising about $3.2 billion and is seeking a valuation of up to $108.3 billion.

Demand has been strong.

The IPO was fully subscribed within two hours of opening, driven largely by institutional investors. Jio shares are expected to begin trading on October 28.

At the same time, crypto traders have already been speculating on Jio's valuation through pre IPO perpetual futures.

The parallel markets offer an unusual look at how investors are pricing a major private company before its shares officially begin trading.

Jio IPO attracts strong institutional demand

Jio Platforms is one of the largest digital companies in India.

The company operates the country's biggest telecom network and has more than 500 million subscribers.

It also has businesses across cloud services, digital platforms and artificial intelligence.

Jio's IPO is the largest public offering in Indian market history.

The company is offering 270 million new shares, with the price range set between INR 1,065 and INR 1,119 per share.

At the top of the range, Jio would be valued at about $108.3 billion.

Institutional demand was already strong before the public offering opened.

The anchor book attracted bids far above the amount available, with global investors including BlackRock among participants.

The public offering then reached full subscription within the first two hours.

Retail demand was slower than institutional demand, but the early response shows that investors remain interested in Jio despite broader concerns around technology valuations.

Why are crypto traders already trading Jio?

Jio shares are not yet listed.

However, some crypto exchanges already offer pre IPO perpetual contracts linked to the expected value of the company.

These products allow traders to take long or short positions before the actual stock starts trading.

JIOUSDT is one example.

The contract does not represent ownership of Jio shares.

Traders do not receive voting rights, dividends or other shareholder rights.

Instead, the contract tracks market expectations about Jio's future share price and valuation.

This makes it a derivative rather than equity.

Pre IPO futures can therefore move before the official IPO price is finalized.

Pre IPO futures are not the same as Jio shares

The difference matters.

The official Jio IPO gives investors real equity in the company.

A pre IPO perpetual contract gives traders exposure to price expectations.

The two markets can diverge.

Crypto futures may trade above or below the valuation implied by the IPO price range because liquidity, leverage and market sentiment are different.

Pre IPO markets can also be more volatile.

There is no established public share price to anchor the contract.

As a result, traders are effectively speculating on where Jio could trade after listing.

Some crypto platforms have allowed leverage on these contracts, increasing both potential gains and losses.

The pricing should therefore not be treated as an official indication of where Jio shares will open on October 28.

Jio valuation becomes the main question

Jio's business is already highly profitable.

The company generates most of its revenue from telecom services and has built one of the largest mobile subscriber bases in the world.

The IPO valuation also reflects expectations for future growth in cloud services, digital products and artificial intelligence.

That creates a more complicated investment case.

Jio is no longer being valued only as a telecom company.

Investors are increasingly looking at its ability to monetize hundreds of millions of users through additional digital services.

This is one reason the IPO has attracted strong demand.

It is also the main risk.

A valuation above $100 billion requires continued growth beyond the core telecom business.

Meta and Google remain major Jio shareholders

Jio already has several large global technology investors.

Meta owns close to 10% of the company, while Google also holds a significant stake.

Those investments were made before the IPO and helped strengthen Jio's position as a broader digital platform.

The presence of major technology shareholders adds another layer to the listing story.

Jio sits at the intersection of telecom, cloud infrastructure, digital services and AI.

That makes the company different from a traditional mobile operator.

Investors will be watching how much of the future valuation comes from established telecom cash flow and how much depends on newer businesses.

What happens after the Jio IPO?

The subscription period runs through October 23.

Share allocation is expected to follow before Jio begins trading on October 28.

The listing will provide the first real public market price for the company.

That will also give pre IPO crypto markets a reference point they currently lack.

Until then, JIOUSDT and similar contracts should be viewed mainly as sentiment indicators.

If crypto futures trade significantly above the IPO valuation, it could suggest traders expect a strong listing.

If they fall below it, the market may be questioning whether the IPO valuation is too aggressive.

Neither outcome guarantees how the stock will actually trade.

Jio offers a new test for pre IPO crypto markets

The Jio listing is also an important test for crypto based pre IPO trading.

Private company derivatives have expanded quickly in 2026.

Traders can now speculate on companies before their shares reach traditional exchanges.

Jio gives the market a clear event to measure.

The company already has an official IPO price range, a confirmed listing date and strong institutional demand.

Once Jio shares begin trading, investors will be able to compare the pre IPO crypto price with the actual public market price.

That comparison will show whether pre IPO perpetual markets can provide useful price discovery or whether leverage and thin liquidity create too much noise.

For now, Jio's IPO has strong demand from traditional investors.

Crypto traders are already trying to price what happens next.
