Patriots day - 2026

USD: Sep '26 is Up at 98.880.

Energies: Oct '26 Crude is Down at 99.18.

Financials: The Dec '26 30 Year T-Bond is Lower by 11 ticks and trading at 106.30

Indices: The Sep '26 S&P 500 emini ES contract is 178 ticks Higher and trading at 7642.75.

Gold: The Dec'26 Gold contract is trading Down at 4389.20.

Initial conclusion

This is not a correlated market. The USD is Up and Crude is Down which is normal, but the 30-Year T-Bond is trading Lower.  The Financials should always correlate with the US dollar such that if the dollar is Higher, then the bonds should follow and vice-versa. The S&P is Higher and Crude is trading Lower which is correlated. Gold is trading Lower which is correlated with the US dollar trading Up.  I tend to believe that Gold has an inverse relationship with the US Dollar as when the US Dollar is down, Gold tends to rise in value and vice-versa. Think of it as a seesaw, when one goes Up the other goes Down.  All of Asia traded Lower.   All of Europe is trading Higher.

Possible challenges to traders

  • Core CPI m/m is out at 8:30 AM EST. Major.
  • Core CPI y/y is out at 8:30 AM EST. Major.
  • Prelim UOM Consumer sentiment is out at 10 AM EST. Major.

We've elected to switch gears a bit and show correlation between the 2-year Treasury notes (ZT) and the S&P futures contract.  The YM contract is the Dow Jones Industrial Average, and the purpose is to show reverse correlation between the two instruments.  Remember it's likened to a seesaw, when up goes up the other should go down and vice versa.

Yesterday the ZT nosed dived at around 8 AM EST with no economic news to report.  The Dow gained ground at around the same time.  Look at the charts below and you'll see a pattern for both assets. The ZT lost ground at around 8 AM EST and the Dow climbed Higher around the same time.  These charts represent the newest version of Bar Charts, and I've changed the timeframe to a 15-minute chart to display better.  This represented a Short opportunity on the 2-year note, as a trader you could have netted about a dozen plus ticks per contract on this trade.  Each tick is worth $6.25.  Please note: the front month for the ZT is now Sep '26.  I've changed the format to filled Candlesticks (not hollow) such that it may be more apparent and visible.

Bias

Yesterday we gave the markets an Upside bias, but the markets had other ideas as the Dow fell by 317 points and the other indices lost ground as well.  Today our bias is to the Upside.

Could this change? Of Course.  Remember anything can happen in a volatile market.

Commentary

Yesterday the markets lost ground again as the Dow dropped 317 points and the other indices closed Lower as well.  Will this continue?  Only time will tell.  Want to learn Market Correlation and determine market direction hours before the Opening Bell?

AUD/USD keeps range near mid-0.7100s as USD bulls await US CPI

AUD/USD steadies near mid-0.7100s in the Asian session on Friday, stalling the previous day's sharp decline to an over one-week low. The August PPI report reaffirmed Fed rate-hike bets and boosted the US Dollar on Thursday, which weighed heavily on the pair. However, hawkish RBA expectations limited losses for the Aussie as USD bulls now await the release of the US consumer inflation figures before placing fresh bets.

USD/JPY holds lower ground toward 154.00; looks to US CPI

USD/JPY holds lower ground toward 154.00 in the Asian session on Friday after hot Japanese PPI data bolster a more hawkish BoJ repricing and provide fresh impetus to the Japanese Yen. However, the downside appears capped as the US Dollar preserves overnight gains ahead of the latest US consumer inflation data.

Gold moves away from one-week low, climbs above $4,450 as USD edges lower ahead of CPI

Gold builds on its modest intraday recovery from the $4,300 neighborhood, or a one-and-a-half-week low, touched earlier this Friday, and climbs above $4,350 heading into the European session. The upside potential, however, seems limited as traders opt to wait for the release of US consumer inflation figures before placing directional bets.

Cardano approaches critical support as correction risks grow
Cardano (ADA) recovers slightly, trading at $0.206 at the time of writing on Friday, inches above the critical support zone after losing more than 6% so far this week. Weakening derivatives data and fading bullish momentum suggest a bearish near-term outlook, with a decisive close below the support zone potentially triggering a deeper correction for ADA.
US core CPI data set to ease in August as markets reprice Fed September rate decision

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics will publish the August Consumer Price Index data on Friday. The report is expected to show a small decline in annual core inflation. Any divergence from analysts’ estimates could influence the Federal Reserve’s policy outlook and impact the US Dollar’s valuation.

Venezuela’s 65-billion-barrel Oil deal could reshape America’s inflation fight
The United States (US) has secured unprecedented access to part of Venezuela’s vast Oil reserves. The timing is particularly significant as the war with Iran is disrupting Middle Eastern supplies, keeping energy prices elevated and reviving concerns about inflation.
