Coinbase outlines 'Everything Exchange' vision with planned tokenized stocks and AI advisor
- Coinbase plans to launch 1:1-backed tokenized US stocks outside the US, enabling onchain trading, transfers, redemptions and dividend payments.
- The exchange also launched 24/7 perpetual-style stock index trading for US users, offering up to 20x leverage and USDC settlement.
- Coinbase's broader roadmap includes an AI-powered advisor and stock options trading as part of its "Everything Exchange" vision.
Crypto exchange Coinbase (COIN) unveiled a broad slate of new products on Tuesday, outlining plans to expand into tokenized equities and AI-powered investment tools in its pursuit of becoming an "Everything Exchange."
Coinbase bets on tokenized stocks with plans to roll out fully backed products
A centerpiece of the roadmap is Coinbase's planned launch of tokenized US equities for customers outside the United States. The company said the assets will be fully backed on a one-to-one basis by real shares, allowing users to trade, hold and redeem them onchain while automatically receiving dividend payments.
The upcoming launch comes as traditional brokerages and crypto firms increasingly compete to bring equities onto blockchain infrastructure.
“Our product will give all the benefits of true ownership, with all the benefits of tokenized assets. This is a great step towards unlocking global access to US markets,” wrote Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong in an X post.
Coinbase expands AI and derivative products offerings
Coinbase also announced that crypto options will be added to its platform later this year following its integration with derivatives exchange Deribit. The company said the offering will give US users access to "the full suite of derivatives" alongside "some of the most liquid crypto options in the world."
Stock options are also scheduled to launch soon, giving users additional tools for portfolio management and hedging.
Meanwhile, the exchange has rolled out thousands of US stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) on Coinbase Advanced. The platform offers commission-free trading during market hours, fractional share purchases using USDC and TradingView chart integration.
Coinbase further revealed plans to launch perpetual-style stock index futures that trade around the clock. The products, currently available to US users, support up to 20x leverage, settle in USDC and include thematic indices such as AI10, which tracks artificial intelligence-related companies.
Beyond trading products, the exchange introduced Coinbase Advisor, which it described as one of the first SEC-registered AI-powered investment advisors. The AI tool will provide personalized portfolio analysis, investment insights and automated tax-loss harvesting initially for Coinbase One subscribers in the United States.
"High-quality advice — specific to you — is now one chat away," the company said.
The exchange also launched time-based prediction markets that allow users to trade on the future prices of cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Solana (SOL) and Hyperliquid (HYPE), over timeframes ranging from 15 minutes to 1 year.
The announcements underscore Coinbase's strategy of evolving from a crypto exchange into a broader financial platform combining equities, derivatives and AI-powered financial services.
COIN extended its decline to 0.45% in after hours trading, marking a stalled market response to recent announcements.
