US President Trump: Iran in a state of collapse

In a post published on Truth Social on Tuesday, United States (US) President Donald Trump said that Iran has just informed them they are in a "state of collapse."

"They want us to open the Hormuz Strait as soon as possible, as they try to figure out their leadership situation (Which I believe they will be able to do!)," he added.

Market reaction

These comments failed to trigger a noticeable market reaction. At the time of press, the US Dollar Index was up 0.25% on the day at 98.73.

The 2% inflation target came from a throwaway remark. It now moves trillions
The Federal Reserve's 2% inflation goal grew out of an off-the-cuff remark by a New Zealand politician in 1988. Bond investors still price long-term US debt as if 2% holds, so a change in how the Fed measures inflation would move markets.
