Tesla misses earnings consensus by 39% in Q2, shares slide

  • Tesla misses adjusted EPS consensus by $0.21 in Q2.
  • Revenue comes in $1.75 billion ahead of consensus in Q2.

Tesla (TSLA) missed Wall Street's consensus for second-quarter adjusted earnings per share (EPS) late Wednesday. TSLA stock dropped over 2.5% afterhours on the news as the EV-battery-robot company reported adjusted EPS of $0.33 compared with the analyst consensus of $0.54.

Revenue in the quarter, however, of $28.24 billion beat the consensus by $1.75 billion as sales rose nearly 26% from a year earlier. Earlier this month, Tesla reported Q2 deliveries of 480K vehicles.

Tesla also reported capex of $5.79 billion in the quarter compared with $2.49 billion in the first quarter. Free cash flow dropped to $1.09 billion in Q2 compared with $1.44 billion in Q1.
