EU's Barnier: EU hopes UK cross-party talks will break Brexit impasse this week
Speaking at Leuven University in Belgium late-Monday, the European Union (EU) Chief Brexit Negotiator Michel Barnier noted that the EU really hopes that UK’s Conservatives Party and the opposition Labour Party manage to reach a Brexit deal and bring an end to the impasse this week.
Key Quotes (via Reuters):
“The ball is in the UK court.”
“It has been six months since the deal was agreed between the EU and the UK. The EU agreed to give the UK more time because the UK has requested so. Talks are still ongoing in London. That is where the deadlock must be broken.”
“We are hoping to see the results of the cross-party talks this week.”
