Bitcoin steadies at $82,000: The five forces crushing the Uptober rally

Crypto markets have remained under pressure so far in October, with Bitcoin (BTC) sliding below $80,000 earlier this week before recovering to around $82,000 on Friday, as macroeconomic headwinds and cooling demand weigh on the market.

The crowd’s “Uptober” rally narrative has failed to play out so far, as persistent selling pressure and widespread liquidations have instead reinforced the “Rektober” narrative – a term used to describe an October marked by sharp losses rather than the gains traditionally associated with “Uptober.”

Busy week for Ripple’s RLUSD: What changes for stablecoin holders?

Ripple’s RLUSD is gaining ground across institutional finance, with a major bank launching custody services, a new wallet integration making it easier for developers to build payments and agentic experiences on the network, and a brokerage platform planning to use the stablecoin for settlement. Together, the three developments mark another step forward connecting blockchain-based assets with traditional financial infrastructure.

For many years, cryptocurrencies and traditional finance were treated like two different worlds. Banks handled US dollars, bonds and traditional assets, while crypto exchanges handled digital tokens and coins.
