China’s top trade war negotiator Liu to visit US to pave way for Xi-Trump meeting

According to a story carried by the South China Morning Post (SCMP), the Chinese Vie Premier Liu He is preparing to visit the US shortly to discuss the impending trade talks with his economic counterparts, in an attempt to ease rising trade tensions ahead of a meeting between the two Chinese President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart Donald Trump set for the end of this month.
The two leaders had a phone conversation last week and agreed to meet on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Argentina.
On Saturday, Liu told former US secretary of state Henry Kissinger in Beijing that China and the US should seek to resolve their economic disputes on the principles of “mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit”.
