October’s final stretch, short squeezes, chubby crypto moves, and a market still defending $80–81k

The past week in crypto has been defined by short squeezes, chubby candles, and violent two‑way liquidations — not by new macro information. After yesterday’s press conference from Kevin Warsh, the market absorbed the message quickly: nothing new was added, nothing dovish was hinted, and nothing surprising was delivered. So we won’t repeat old commentary — because Warsh didn’t give the market anything fresh to chew on.

Instead, today’s action is shaped by data, not speeches.

Today’s U.S. data: Sticky inflation, strong growth, solid labor

At 4:30 PM Dubai, the U.S. released a cluster of high‑impact numbers:

Key U.S. Releases

Data

Actual

Expected

Notes

Headline PCE (Sept)

0.5% m/m, 3.6% y/y

3.6%

In line, but sticky. Up from 3.4%.

Core PCE

0.3% m/m, 3.1% y/y

3.1%

Still far above the Fed’s 2% target.

Q3 GDP (advance)

3.4%

3.2%

Stronger than expected.

Initial Jobless Claims

194k

~198k

Solid, slightly better.

Macro takeaway

  • Inflation stayed elevated → supports market pricing of a possible December hike.
  • Growth was strong → gives Warsh room to stay hawkish.
  • Labor remains resilient → no pressure to cut.
  • Overall: mixed‑to‑hawkish, not a clean dovish surprise.

These numbers hit two hours before the sharp crypto candle at 6:30 PM Dubai. Stocks opened lower afterward — partly due to Alphabet’s earnings miss, partly due to sticky inflation. The later BTC bounce back above $81K looked more like short covering once U.S. liquidity fully activated, not a reaction to any new data print.

Crypto: Short squeezes, long squeezes, and ETF defense at $80–81K

Bitcoin is trading around $79.8K–81K, down 1.7% on the day, with Ethereum at $2,309 (‑2.0%), BNB at $748 (‑1.36%), and XRP at $1.28 (‑2.67%). The market continues to defend the $80–81K ETF inflow zone, which has acted as a magnet for institutional positioning over the past two weeks.

But defending a level does not guarantee a monthly close above it.

October can still end in the $70K zone, especially if:

  • Real yields stay above 5%
  • USD remains firm
  • Oil stays elevated
  • Risk assets soften into month‑end rebalancing

The squeezes we’ve seen — both long and short — are a symptom of compressed liquidity, not a sign of trend reversal. Crypto is stuck in a narrow range, and scalpers are the only ones enjoying the micro‑volatility.

The danger is simple: Every tight range eventually breaks, and the break usually liquidates both sides first.

Middle East: A 10‑day peace plan that markets are watching closely

Qatar is mentoring a 10‑day peace framework between Iran and the U.S., requiring daily progress on de‑escalation steps. As long as this plan holds, oil remains elevated but stable — trading near $101.8 (‑0.89%) today, with Brent still above $114.

Markets have already priced the geopolitical shock. They are no longer reacting the way they did when the conflict began.

But the risk remains binary:

If the peace plan holds:

  • Oil stays elevated but stable
  • Risk assets may see a tiny relief rally
  • Gold remains capped by yields
  • Crypto continues its range‑bound behavior

If the plan breaks:

  • Oil spikes toward $110–120
  • Inflation expectations rise
  • USD strengthens
  • Risk assets slide
  • Bitcoin retests $70K–72K
  • Gold finds support near $3,900–3,850

This geopolitical variable is the single most important non‑Fed factor for November.

Commodities: Broad Red, Gold Still Capped

All major commodities are down:

  • Gold — 4,037 (‑0.36%)
  • Silver — 52.81 (‑1.60%)
  • Copper — 6.63 (‑0.60%)
  • Platinum — 1,508 (‑2.03%)
  • Oil — 101.87 (‑0.89%)

Gold remains stuck between 4,025–4,070, capped by real yields and USD strength. The structural zone of 3,600–3,400 remains the healthy pullback area.

FX and Yields: Slight Easing, No Trend Change

FX pairs:

  • EURUSD — 1.1147 (‑0.06%)
  • GBPUSD — 1.3328 (+0.06%)
  • USDJPY — 157.79 (+0.02%)
  • AUDUSD — 0.7045 (‑0.11%)

Yields eased slightly:

  • U.S. 10Y — 5.001% (‑0.04%)
  • Eurozone — 3.353% (‑0.27%)
  • UK — 5.321% (‑0.56%)

The curve remains steep, consistent with Warsh’s hawkish hold.

Conclusion: Short squeezes, sticky inflation, and a market waiting for November

This week’s crypto volatility was positioning, not macro. Warsh added nothing new. Today’s data confirmed sticky inflation and strong growth. Institutions continue defending $80–81K, but October can still close in the $70Ks. The Middle East peace plan is the key geopolitical variable. Oil remains the inflation wildcard. Scalpers enjoy the range. Everyone else should beware the squeezes.

November will not be quiet. It will be data‑driven, liquidity‑sensitive, and geopolitically reactive.
