UK Jan industrial data: Downbeat across all indicators

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) published the UK industrial and manufacturing production data on Friday, showing that the overall industrial activity improved in the month of January, but missed expectations. Meanwhile, the manufacturing figures showed a bigger-than-expected drop.
Manufacturing output arrived at 0.1% m/m in Jan versus a 0.3% gain seen in Dec, while total industrial output rose by 1.3% in the reported month, against a -1.3% decrease seen previously.
On an annualized basis, the UK manufacturing production figures came in at 2.7% in Jan, missing expectations. Total industrial output also increased by 1.6% in Jan, below expectations of a 1.8% reading and against the previous 0.0% print.
