ECB Spokesman: German bond redemptions were high in April, had to be spread to May

A spokesman for the European Central Bank has recently crossed the wires, via Reuters, providing key quotes found below.

  • Several countries (e.G. France, Austria, Belgium) saw their share of app net purchases go down in May 2018, not just Italy.
  • This is the result of agreed and communicated rules on the timing of re-investments during the net purchases phase.
  • German bond redemptions were high in April, had to be spread to May.
  • In absolute terms, net buying for Italy in may was higher than March and January.
