Trump says strong dollar hurting US competitiveness – Reuters

The US President Donald Trump again criticized the Fed by taking aim on their monetary policy and strong US Dollar.

As per the recent news report from Reuters, Trump said at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference in Oxon Hill, Maryland, that the U.S. central bank’s tight monetary policy was contributing to a strong dollar and hurting the United States’ competitiveness.

Some of the statements from the US President, as reported by Reuters, are as follows:

  • "We have a gentleman that likes a very strong dollar at the Fed."
  • "I want a strong dollar, but I want a dollar that’s great for our country not a dollar that is so strong that it is prohibitive for us to be dealing with other nations."
  • "Can you imagine if we left interest rates where they were... if we didn’t do quantitative tightening, this would lead to a little bit lower dollar."
