US President Biden rejects change in NI protocol resulting in a closed border
|“On the protocols, I feel very strongly on those,” said US President Joe Biden when asked about the situation with the Northern Ireland (NI) protocol, per BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg.
The BBC reporter also tweeted that US President Biden said he “feels very strongly” that he doesn't want a change to the 'Irish accords' resulting in a closed border.
The due, namely UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and US President Biden, also talked about a US-UK trade deal, per the BBC source, which markets were dashing previously. On this Biden said, he and the PM would “talk about it a little” today, but they “have to work it through”.
Market implications
UK PM Johnson’s US visit starts with positive news but the pre-Fed cautious seems to restrict the market reaction. That said, the GBP/USD struggles to extend the latest rebound.
