Japan expands entry ban to US China, South Korea and most of Europe – Asahi

Reuters, on a news from Asahi, has reported on the Japanese government that is to expand its entry ban to include those travelling from the US, China, South Korea and most of Europe.

The government may also ban entry from and travel to some countries in Southeast Asia and Africa, the Asahi said, citing a few government sources, 

– Reuters reported. 

Market implications

This should be a relief to the population, driving up internal spirits and ultimately positive for Japan in the short term, but highly detrimental to the economy longer term. The world is caught in a rock and hard place, jeopardising the economy for the sake of human lives without having hindsight in its favour. The yen is better-bid in the off this week as markets extend the risk-off sentiment from Friday's New York session. USD/JPY trades -0.40% at the time of writing.
