ECB's Muller: Not sure if increasing volume of APP purchases best way to avoid cliff effect

European Central Bank (ECB) Governing Council member Madis Muller argued on Wednesday that increasing the Asset Purchase Programme next year might not be the best course of action to take.

"Just to be clear. We should openly discuss all options," Muller tweeted out. "But given the currently very favorable financing conditions and the solid recovery, I am not sure if increasing the volume of APP purchases in the spring is the best way to avoid a cliff effect."

Market reaction

These comments don't seem to be having a significant impact on the shared currency's performance against its rivals. As of writing, the EUR/USD pair was posting small daily gains at 1.1732.
