The title of Donald Horne's 1964 book was meant to be ironic.  Australia never earned its prosperity according to the author, but inherited her political system from England and her vast resources from nature. Her material endowments and proximity to booming Asian markets have been the foundation of the nations economy. Does that make the Australia and the Aussie Dollar just another commodity country blessed in time as well as space riding the now generation long East Asian trajectory? Is there more there more to  Down Under than "because I come from a land of plenty"?
