US: JOLTS Job Openings little changed at 9.2 million in May

  • US Dollar Index edges higher toward 92.70 after the data.

The number of job openings on the last business day of May was little changed at 9.2 million, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics announced in its latest Job Openings and Labor Turnover Summary (JOLTS) on Wednesday. This reading came in slightly below the market expectation of 9.38 million. 

"Hires were little changed at 5.9 million," the publication further read. "Total separations decreased to 5.3 million. Within separations, the quits rate decreased to 2.5%. The layoffs and discharges rate, while little changed over the month."

Market reaction

The USD continues to outperform its rivals and the US Dollar Index was last seen gaining 0.13% on a daily basis at 92.66.
