The region remained resilient in 2016 – ECB’s M.Draghi

At his first testimony today before the European Parliament on the region’s economic outlook and prospects after the Brexit vote, President Mario Draghi said:

“Euro economy stayed resilient this year, while global economy should continue its recovery despite significant political and economic uncertainties”.

“ECB policy was key ingredient of ongoing recovery”.

“The European project needs strong economic foundations; stronger support for European integration encouraging”.

Draghi stressed that fiscal and structural policies are needed to boost GDP, while he reiterated the economy is expanding at a moderate but steady pace.

He added that gradual upward economic trend is set to continue and that the euro bloc weathered Brexit fallout with resilience.
