Germany’s Spahn: Need a national lockdown to break the latest virus wave

“We need a national lockdown to break the latest virus wave,” Germany’s Health Minister Jens Spahn said on Friday.

Additional comments

“Current infection numbers yet to reflect actual virus situation.”

“Show a lockdown should massively limit mobility and last between 2, 4 weeks.”

“Night-time curfews might be necessary to reduce contacts.”

Earlier today, Germany reported 25,464 new coronavirus cases and 296 deaths. That represents the highest daily case count since January 8.

Market reaction

Talks about a national lockdown seem to be weighing on the euro, as the EUR/USD pair reverts to the daily lows of 1.1884, shedding 0.20% on the day.
