French legislative elections (R1): Macron in a strong position to enact his pro-business agenda
|Today was the first round of the legislative elections where Macron's La République en Marche party LREM went into leading the polls of around 31.5% to the Republicans 22%and National Front's 17%.
French voters today gave the triumph to the still untested party of the recently chose President, Emmanuel Macron, in the parliamentary races.
Based on returns from 86 percent of France’s 577 districts, it appeared likely that candidates for Mr. Macron’s party would receive 28 percent of the votes for the National Assembly, the powerful lower house of the French Parliament; that is a very large majority for the 39-year-old president. He will be in a strong position to enact his pro-business agenda — although nothing is certain until next week’s second-round vote. The final results will be confirmed next week on Sunday the 18th, when the second round of voting will be counted.
