Coronavirus update UK: 1,148 new coronavirus cases confirmed on Tuesday

There were 1,148 confirmed cases of coronavirus infections as of 0900 GMT on Tuesday, the British Health Ministry reported. This figure followed Monday's increase of 816 and the cumulative total of cases in the UK currently stands at 312,879.

Earlier in the day, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that the UK needs to make sure that there isn't a second wave of COVID-19 and acknowledged that there will be "bumpy months" ahead.

The GBP/USD pair edged lower in the last hour and was last seen trading flat on the day at 1.3072.
