Coronavirus update: European countries set new record in daily cases

Covid-19 cases continue to rise across Europe. Italy reported on Friday 19,143 cases a new record, yesterday it was 16,079 and a week ago around 10,000. Cases in the Netherlands also hit a record, by rising above 10,000 for the first time.

The UK reported 20,530 cases, below Thursday’s 21,242. However, deaths increased from 189 to 224. In Russia, confirmed cases rose above 17,000 for the first time.

Poland reported 13,632 new cases on Friday and the Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced new restrictions starting on Saturday. European countries continue to impose more restrictions in order to ease contagions.

Global daily cases on Thursday reached 468,499, another all-time-high and on Friday could come closer to 500,000.
