ZCash (ZEC) failed to capitalize on Coinbase support

  • Privacy-focused ZCash now supported by Coinbase wallet and mobile apps.
  • ZEC/USD returned earlier gains amid bearish market sentiments.

Cryptocurrency wallet service and mobile apps of the leading US-based exchange for digital assets Coinbase now support ZCash. The company announced on Wednesday in its blog post and on the Twitter account.

"Starting today, Coinbase supports Zcash (ZEC) at Coinbase.com and in the Coinbase Android and iOS apps. Coinbase customers can now buy, sell, send, receive, or store ZEC."

This is good news for privacy-focused ZCash (ZEC) that is now supported by about 14 web-based cryptocurrency wallets and a handful of downloadable wallets that allow to send and receive coins anonymously.

It is worth noting that, residents of the United Kindom and New York state won't have access to ZCash via Coinbase wallets.

"ZEC will be available for customers in most jurisdictions, but will not initially be available for residents of the United Kingdom or the state of New York. Additional jurisdictions may be added at a later date."

ZEC/USD enjoyed a short recovery towards $73.15 following the news announcement. But the upside proved to be unsustainable amid overall bearish sentiments dominating the cryptocurrency market. Currently, ZEC/USD is changing hands at $67.52, off the Asian low registered at $63.34.
