US Sec. of State Pompeo: Not deterred from taking action to respond against China

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo came out on the wires, via Twitter, expressing his take after China’s parliament passed the national security law for Hong Kong.

Pompeo tweeted out: “The Chinese Communist Party's threats to restrict visas for U.S. citizens is the latest example of Beijing’s refusal to accept responsibility for breaking its commitment to the people of Hong Kong. We will not be deterred from taking action to respond.”

Meanwhile, Global Times editor Hu Xijin was quick to comments on the national security bill passage, noting, “I've learned the National Security Law for Hong Kong has been passed by China's top legislature this morning. People who saw the draft said the heaviest penalty is life imprisonment. The law will take effect on July 1. Official detailed information will be released later today.”
