S&P 500 Index opens modestly higher, holds above 4,200
|- Wall Street's main indexes post small gains on Wednesday.
- Energy shares push lower after the opening bell.
- Federal Reserve will publish Beige Book at 1800 GMT.
Major equity indexes opened near Tuesday's closing levels on Wednesday amid a lack of significant data releases and fundamental developments. As of writing, the S&P 500 was up 0.1% at 4,206, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was rising 0.15% at 34,627 and the Nasdaq Composite was rising 0.08% at 13,666.
Among the 11 major S&P 500 sectors, the Energy Index is losing 0.5% as crude oil prices pull away from multi-year highs set at $68.86. At the moment, the barrel of West Texas Intermediate is trading flat on the day a little below $68.
On the other hand, the Technology Index is rising 0.45% as the best-performing major sector after the opening bell.
Ahead of the closing bell, the Federal Reserve will release its Beige Book.
