India likely to delay raising tariffs on US goods - Reuters

Monideepa Mukherjee, a spokeswoman for India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry, told Reuters late-Thursday, India is considering postponing the imposition of the retaliatory duties on the US products, as cited by Reuters.

In retaliation to the US metals tariffs, India announced it would raise import tax on some US products including almonds, walnuts and apples.

Mukherjee, however, said the government proposed to put the new tariffs, which were due to go into effect on Aug. 4, on hold.

“The Ministry of Commerce has suggested to the department of revenue to amend the notification for further extension of retaliatory measures for 45 days,” noted.
