IMF Spokesperson: Not received any indication Turkey will ask it for financial assistance

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) spokesperson is on the wires now, via Reuters, commenting on any aid/ financial assistance asked by Turkey.

In light of recent market volatility, Turkey needs to demonstrate a commitment to sound macroeconomic policies to promote economic stability, reduce imbalances. 

IMF has not received any indication from Turkish authorities that they are contemplating a request for IMF financial assistance.

IMF has called on Turkey to tighten policies to address economic imbalances, will keep monitoring situation closely.

IMF needs to ensure full operational independence to the central bank to pursue the mandate of security price stability.
