Britain interested in joining TPP trade deal after Brexit - FT

According to a report, via Financial Times, Britain is interested in joining the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade bloc in a bid to boost post-Brexit exports.

After the US pulled out of the talks to form the bloc, the TPP mainly revolves around countries like Canada, Mexico, and Japan. However, junior trade minister Greg Hands told the Financial Times that there was no geographical restriction that would prevent Britain’s participation.

The newspaper quoted an official from a TPP country as saying it was “way too soon” to discuss UK accession before a Brexit deal. Moreover, EU rules also state that Britain cannot agree on new trade deals before it leaves the bloc in March 2019 and hence, the headlines did little in influence the British Pound.
