Nasdaq say they are open to cryptocurrency exchange

  • U.S. exchange operator Nasdaq willing to explore crypto exchange in the future.
  • Wednesday Nasdaq did announce a deal of surveillance with Gemini Trust Company, to monitor cryptocurrency trading on its exchange.

 

The CEO of the U.S. exchange operator Nasdaq, noted the organisation would be open to exploring a cryptocurrency exchange, but in time once the regulatory side of things has evolved within the crypto space, as reported by Thoman Reuters.

Reuters quoted Andena Friedman, the CEO, saying “over time, if it ultimately does morph into a regulated environment, it does give us an opportunity to participate as a marketplace, but I think that is a longer road and it doesn’t have a certain path right now,”

She further went on to note that Nasdaq is exploring deals with several virtual currency exchanges, to provide market infrastructure technology for trading and clearing, as well as surveillance. This follows from earlier in the week, Nasdaq did announce a deal of surveillance with Gemini Trust Company, to monitor cryptocurrency trading on its exchange for potential market manipulation and fraud.
