Redbook: US Retail Sales Down 1.2% In Oct Vs Sept

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Redbook Research's latest indicator of national retail sales fell 1.2% in the four weeks of October compared with the previous month, according to data released Tuesday.

The index's rise compared with a targeted 1% decline, according to the report.

The Johnson Redbook Index also showed seasonally adjusted sales in the four-week period rose 0.6% compared with October 2007, compared with a targeted increase of 0.7%.

Redbook said on an unadjusted basis, sales in the week ended Nov. 1 were up 0.3% versus a year ago, following a gain of 0.7% a week earlier.
