China Dec Iron Ore Imports At 34.53 Mln Tons, Up 1% On Year

BEIJING (Dow Jones)--China imported 34.53 million metric tons of iron ore in December, up 6.2% from 32.52 million tons in November, preliminary data provided by the General Administration of Customs Tuesday showed.

December iron ore imports rose 1.0% from a year ago, when the country imported 34.2 million tons.

Analysts say shipments from Australia and India have been rising as steel mills take advantage of historically low prices to replenish stocks.

Total imports for the year rose 15.9% to 443.56 million tons, customs said.
