Summary:

Two schools of prediction are competing in assessing the next several quarters of economic growth in the world's largest economy. Pending recession is the most dramatic. The crux of this analysis that that this time is different, to borrow the phrase from Professors Rogoff and Reinhart. The 2007 recession was financial, very different than the standard business cycle recession. Recovery will be slow, weak and subject to relapse. The second school is also grim, weak growth will continue, but far to slow to improve unemployment. Neither anticipates a robust recovery. We will look at some of the indicators and draw our own conclusions.
