Producer prices (PPI) rose by 3.2% mom in November – the highest monthly increase in more than 30 years. This was almost entirely due to the jump in energy prices, because core PPI, albeit also accelerating, only rose by 0.4% mom. There is likely to have been a brief respite in energy prices in December; e.g. gasoline prices declined by about 2.0% mom on average.
