Retail sales in the UK rose in May, rebounding from the slight decline in April, showing high street activity remains buoyant despite a string of interest rate hikes from the Bank of England, official figures showed.

The Swiss National Bank raised interest rates by 25 basis points to 2.50% overnight as expected. The SNB forecasted 2007 inflation at 0.8%, and 2008 inflation at 1.5%, up from March’s forecasts of 0.5% and 1.4% respectively.
