Consumer confidence rebounded in the second half of 2006 fuelled by falling petrol prices and strong income growth. However, since then interest rates have moved higher and petrol prices are up 13c/litre relative to the December survey. The RBNZ needs to see a moderation in consumer spending and the housing market in order to keep interest rates on hold.
