USD/JPY

Global FX Daily - European Edition - USD remains soft in Asia, but key US releases this week will be critical by Mellon Foreign Exchange

Net long positioning on USD-JPY fell back to 116,195 contracts after rising to 167,505 from 128,526 the previous week. However, this was before the BoJ meeting outcome on Wednesday. JPY prospects this week will be influenced by the tone of Japanese CPI and consumer spending data released on Friday.

Friday Notes - USD losing its appeal? by HVB Group

The VAT hike impacted consumer prices in January less strongly than anticipated. After massive sales in the initial weeks of January, many retailers have only increased prices with a time lag. This should have pushed the y-o-y rate higher in February.

European Market Update - German GFK Consumer Confidence Hits 14-Month Low by Trade The News

German GFK consumer confidence fell to its lowest level in fourteen months at 4.4 in March as the VAT hike curbed consumer’s desire to make large purchases. The drop to 4.4 in March represents the fourth consecutive decline in GFK consumer confidence. Spanish producer prices for the month of January were ahead of estimates for the month of January reaching a six-month high as prices for electricity rose.
