Asian markets fall on disappointed US data and strong Yen

FXstreet − Asian stocks are dropping after US retail sales decline against expectations and the Yen strengthening wich is hurting the Japanese exportations. US economic indicators - CPI & PPI (Mar): negative annual rates by BHF−Bank

CPI increased by 0.4% mom in February, due to higher energy prices, and thus the annual rate did not enter negative territory. But this is likely to happen in March, as we expect CPI to have risen by 0.1% mom: average gasoline prices only went up slightly, and the retail sector will have offered price incentives in order to generate sales despite sharply rising unemployment.

A leading index of the Australian economy contracted 0.3% in February from January, and fell at an annualized rate of 5.1% in the month to its lowest level since September 1982. The index of where the economy is headed in the next three to nine months is compiled monthly by Westpac Banking Corp. and Melbourne University's Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research.
