DATA SNAP: Australian May Retail Sales Rise 0.7% Vs Apr (Dow Jones)
Australian retail sales rose a higher−than−expected 0.7% to a seasonally adjusted A$20.24 billion in May from A$20.10 billion in April and rose from A$19.08 billion a year earlier, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said Wednesday. Economists surveyed ahead of the announcement on average had expected a 0.1% rise in sales for May. The rise in retail sales was the highest since November 2007.

ABC/Wash Post: US Consumer Confidence Unch In Latest Wk (Dow Jones)
U.S. overall consumer confidence held steady last week, according to an ABC News/Washington Post poll released Tuesday. The consumer comfort index was at −43 in the week ended June 30, unchanged from a week earlier. According to the survey, 15% of respondents expressed confidence in the economy, up from 14% the week before.
