Australia's central bank keeps cash target rate at 7.25 percent (Thomson Financial News)

The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) said on Tuesday its board decided to leave its cash target rate at 7.25 percent during its monthly policy meeting on Tuesday. It said its current stance on monetary policy is appropriate for time being but the board will "continue to evaluate prospects for economic activity and inflation in the light of new information".

DATA SNAP: Australia 1Q Curr Acct Deficit A$19.49B (Dow Jones)

Australia's current account deficit widened to a seasonally adjusted A$19.49 billion in the first quarter of 2008 from a A$18.72 billion deficit in the fourth quarter 2007, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said Tuesday. Economists on average expected a current account deficit after seasonal adjustment of A$20.4 billion in the first quarter.
