EUR/USD

Forex − Dollar firmer in Tokyo on higher Treasury yields, upbeat data by AFX News

The U.S. dollar was higher against other major currencies in Tokyo afternoon trade on Thursday, helped by higher U.S. Treasury yields and upbeat durable goods data which reduced concerns about the U.S. economy.
At 1:00 p.m. (0400 GMT) the dollar was at 104.84, up from 104.74 yen in early Sydney trading and 104.70 yen in late New York trade on Wednesday.
The euro was at $1.5634, down from from $1.5654 in Sydney and $1.5643 in New York.

Japan's April retail sales up 0.1 percent on increased fuel spending (Thomson Financial News)

Retail sales in Japan rose 0.1 percent to 11.19 trillion yen ($106.9 billion) in April from a year earlier, helped by increased spending on fuel due to higher gasoline prices, combined with higher spending on auto purchases, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said on Thursday. It was the ninth straight month that retail sales had risen and followed a 1.0 percent increase in March.
