Research Euroland - Switzerland: Monetary tightening despite zero inflation by Danske Bank A/S

There is no doubt about the outcome of the forthcoming policy meeting at the Swiss central bank. The bank will raise its benchmark interest rate by 0.25 percentage points to 2.25% - anything else would be a huge surprise.

Friday Notes - Correction, not a trend reversal by HVB Group

In February, we expect the confirmation of the flash estimate reading, with eurozone inflation stable at 1.8%, remaining below 2% since August 2006. The core rate is expected to hold at 1.7%, with some upside risks. Overall, the inflation scenario remains benign: we expect further moderation in Q2 and Q3, and a rise back toward 2% in Q4 2007.

Australia jobless rate rises to 4.6 pct in Feb after 30-year low in Jan (AFX News)

The unemployment rate rose to a seasonally adjusted 4.6 pct in February, up from the 30-year low of 4.5 pct in January, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) said. The market was expecting the jobless rate to have stayed at 4.5 pct last month. The ABS said that on a seasonally adjusted basis the number of people employed increased by 22,000 to 10.3579 mln compared with a consensus forecast for a 15,000 rise.
